ABOUT

My name is Layla Anderson. I am an animator and illustrator based in Chicago. Before Chicago, I was originally born in Japan. Drawing was my daily play time when I was a child and this was because when my family and I moved to the United States, we left most of our valuables in Japan. Instead, I made my own activities using pencils and notebooks. I drew characters on a piece of paper and cut them out to make "dolls" (I called them "paper people"), I've created mini books filled with short stories, took the corners of notebooks and made a small flip book animation out of it. As I continued to create, my drawings slowly began to improve as well.

At an early age, I also learned just how powerful images can be in communication. In school, I've struggled to have a simple conversation with my classmates in English because at the time I was still learning the language. During challenging conversations, I would draw pictures to explain what I mean. This has helped me stay connected with my classmates and also make friends with them!

By taking on different opportunities, I hope to achieve creating animations and illustrations that will bring positive connections between people and ideas through images. Just like the connections I've built between myself and the peers around me despite the language gap.
